Hi Friends! Blogging from Kuantan. Will be back to KL Tuesday night. And time to take a break from Malaysian politics... sigh... pathetic...
Anyways, came across a very interesting post on Paul's blog... Can you believe that there's actually a journal called Computers in Human Behavior LOL
I really wonder what other weird journals exist. Anyways, there is one very recent study entitled "Who blogs? Personality predictors of blogging", which concluded:
Of course, this is only one study. It takes a few more studies to validate the results. To put it simply, the study results show that WOMEN who blog are usually open and adventurous and most probably have some form of mental disorder(s). Meanwhile, MEN who blog might or might not be open and adventurous, and might or might not have some form of mental disorder(s). Is it true? Mental disorders include:
- Anxiety, sadness or depression, anger, irritability, mental confusion, low sense of self-worth, etc.,
- Behavioral symptoms such as phobic avoidance, vigilance, impulsive and compulsive acts, lethargy, etc.,
- Cognitive problems such as unpleasant or disturbing thoughts, repetition of thoughts and obsession, habitual fantasizing, negativity and cynicism, etc.
- Interpersonally, neurosis involves dependency, aggressiveness, perfectionism, schizoid isolation, socio-culturally inappropriate behaviors, etc.
Hmmm... Would this study be a discouragement to women who currently blog? I mean, this study suggests that women who DON'T blog are normal = not neurotic. Let's see... and let me think about my women friends and my ex-gfs. Hmmm... Nah... I beg to disagree. I could easily think of a handful of those who DON'T blog but have some form of disorders listed above... LOL... Besides, I have not read the full paper and have tonnes of unaswered questions: What's the methodology (prospective/retrospective, randomised, etc.)? What's the sample size (N)? Were the results statistically significant (p less than 0.05)? What about other related factors such as AGE, EDUCATION LEVEL, RACE, CURRENT PROFESSION, MEDICAL HISTORY, etc.?
But overall, quite an interesting look at what kind of people blogs. Wouldn't mind reading the full article and more studies like these :)
